New Skin

As you've probably noticed by now, i've put a new skin on wordpress.

I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but can never been arsed :/ Still its done now :D

Its basically my original thinkl33t skin, tweaked to remove the left hand bar and with slightly different colours on the links etc, to make it easier to use.

Next on the list is to add a few little buttons to the sidebar, I need firefox, rss, xhtml, css and creative commons i think

A little update...

Well, so whats been going on with me lately?

Well, mainly the usual eat, sleep, work, repeat cycle, but with some fun bits in between.

GPH (the makers of the GP2x) have dumped the company who was making the firmware for the 2x, who had been holding back progress on all fronts, and hired their own coders! This, coupled with their acceptance of the homebrew & development communities is great, and they're already working on replacing some of the worse bits of the gp2x code with new ideas :D

So, last week a thread was posted on gp32x, the biggest English-speaking gp2x forum, with a call to design a new interface for the gp2x's main menu, after reading through the thread, i took a couple of the better ideas, and gave them a bit of photoshop flair!

Other things... well, i've started work on a new robot, nicknamed spybot for now, until i can think of a better name! Its a tracked robot, with a servo-adjusted wireless camera, and is still very much in the design / prototyping stage!

Transformer!

I saw this while perusing slashdot tonight, its basically a fully functional transforming robot!

Which all in all, is pretty damn awesome!

SQL Fun

Had a bit of fun today, trying to pick out only singleton entries from a database table, finding the lowest unique bid for the reverse auction app i'm doing at work. this is what i came up with:

SELECT *
FROM bids
WHERE auction_id =1
GROUP BY value
HAVING ( COUNT( value ) =1 )
ORDER BY value ASC
LIMIT 1;

Wrecs update

I FINALLY got some time to work on Rex again, after building parts of the motor modules oh so many months ago... without further ado, here are the pictures:

rex_wheel_bits.jpg The bits for one of the wheel mountings

rex_wheel_mount_concept.jpg The concept on how the mounting should look

rex_mount_started.jpg Cut a hole with my holesaw... cost £10 for a set of 6 about a year ago, best buy ever!

rex_wheel_mount_half.jpg 3 screws later, and the motor / gearbox / wheel assembly is attached to the motor mount base

rex_wheel_mount.jpg Add some shelf brackets (they're cheap, strong and right angled, perfect really!) and one motor mount is completed!

rex_wheel_mount_2.jpg The same thing, from a different angle

rex_wheel_mounts.jpg Repeat again, and we have two! this is shown on top of the base chassis i built 5 months ago (speedy project i know)

rex_done_btm.jpgrex_done_middle.jpgrex_done_top.jpgSo we're one step closer to the completion of the chassis! next up, attaching the batteries!
